Winter Storm Warning for Albany, NY

Accumulations by Evening, Becoming Mixed Tonight

As low pressure approaches from the Midwest and a cold high resides to our north and east, clouds will give way to increasing snow today with accumulations of a few inches likely by the afternoon/evening drive. Snow will become mixed with sleet and some freezing rain, first in areas to the south by evening, then spreading into the Capital Region tonight. Some accumulation of snow and sleet is possible tonight with areas to the north and higher elevations continuing to snow, on and off overnight. Temps should reach the low to mid 30s around Albany today, dropping to near or just below freezing toward dark and holding steady or slowly rising later tonight into Thursday, when it should be mostly above freezing.

Valley areas in the Capital Region should see anywhere from 2 to 5 or 6 inches by late tonight.  North and higher ground have a potential of 6 or 8 inches to locally over a foot through tomorrow, when snow will continue there.  Wet snow may mix with rain at times from the Capital Region south tomorrow wtih little further accumulation.

Expect partly cloudy and milder weather on Friday.
